Sharing grateful...

30945_176717509136255_1522622534_n_large

Last night during dinner, we went around and said one thing we were grateful for. It is something we do most nights, mainly to help me gage where ttheir at and whats on their minds. Funnily enough they pull me up when we haven't done it, and even our lovely neighbours kids are getting into it when they join us during the week. Do you do something similar?

Anyway, thought I'd share last nights funny responces. ........
Pip - "I'm most grateful for knowing you kids are all so well cared for by mum while I'm away"
Me - "I'm most grateful for my little sleep in this morning"
Bib (7) - "I'm most grateful for you taking us swimming today"
Stooge (5) - "I'm most grateful for my napkin, cause it just caught a blob of tomato sauce"
Rouge (2) - "I'm most grateful for my bubble water"

What's made you grateful this week??

Takes more,

Amor-faz-flutuar_large

This week (and indeed the last few weeks) has been a tough one for our family.
Pip's beautiful cousin died of a hideous cancer just 8 weeks after her diagnosis. She was just 22, and was the proud mother of 2 boys under 2....what can you say?
At time of diagnosis, she was given an expected life expectancy of 3 weeks, but she so desperately wanted to see her baby turn one which was to be in five weeks. It was tough.  She was so devastatingly sick, in horrendous pain and the drugs only seemed to be making her worse.
But she did it! She got to see her baby turn 1 and literally that night started the fast spiral down hill.

Eight weeks later and we receive the phone call - she's gone.
So quick, so hideous and so, so sad.

Worst part is the boys. Who's left to look after them? You would think the father, but he apparently just doesn't think he can do it, so declined the position.......WTF?

I tell you, this got my hackles up. You manage to get them here in the first place, but now you think it's not what you wanted.....too bad cockhead. Yes you heard right....COCKHEAD!
It's really confirmed for me that whilst anyone can be a father, it takes a real man to be a Dad.

My 'father' left my mum when I was about 3 and my brother was around 5 and we almost never saw him again. (I say almost, because he did turn up ONCE, and took us to Centrepoint when I was 7, but that was it!)
Mum remarried a man who had a son just a little younger than I was, 4 days before I turned 6 and it is this man who has been my Dad ever since. He has carried me, fed me, cared for me, loved me, guided me and taught me over the many many years, and yet I am not his. He was able to love me (and my brother) as his own since the day we met him. How is this so? How does one man become the best dad ever to children that aren't from his blood, and others be so unemotionally attached to their own?

Anyway, to cut a long story short, the cockhead, after not seeing his partner (nor his children) in the last 3 weeks of her life, has decided that maybe he could do it? Maybe if he gets some money from the state government to help him, he could do it! And you know what the worst thing is, according to social services, he would be the better choice than us, who are financially secure, willing to adopt and raise as our own, been screened and nitpicked to endth degree too complete satisfaction, and yet he is their father so he is first choice......??
Now I know this well could be the turning point in his life, his changing moment so to speak................well all I can say 'cockhead', is that you better step up and be a dad to these precious boys and not just a father.

Am I overreacting?? What are your thoughts?

Easy flower bobble tutorial.....

Thought I'd share what Bib and I have been making to give to the girls in her class for Christmas this year.
They are easy, quick, bright and suitable for girls of ages.

1. Here's what you need:
cotton, needle, bobble, felt and a button (the kind that shows no holes on top)

 2. Cut your felt pieces into little petal shapes and lay them together in piles. (If you are making a flower all the same colour or rainbow, then 5 petals works well, but we are alternating with 2 colours, so did 6 petals to keep it even)

3. Next you simply stitch the petals onto your cotton. Be sure to do the same stitch on each petal so they fold the same way once pulled together. For example, I always went down, up, down, up from the top of each petal.

4. Start to pull one side of the thread (be sure to hold the other side tight so they don't fall off!) to bring all the petals together.

5. Pull tight and secure with a knot or two. (Be sure to leave the thread strings long as this is what you will thread your button onto and secure your bobble to) See pictures below

And that's it.......so simple!
You can make these to colour match outfits, be in school colours (ours happen to be red/green) christmas themed or anything you like really.

Have you got an easy gift idea you can share??

Bout time!

I'm here to share my excitement! (if you can't brag on your own blog then where else can you!!)
Finally - after much too much faffing - I have my etsy store up and running again.
Woohoo!!

As many of you know I believe strongly in upcycling and making things out of whats at hand, so it's this concept that has had me sewing and creating and off to markets, selling my goodies.

Here's a little look......

I am forever being asked for 'my card' and unfortunately I still haven't finalised my logo so haven't got any, but happily, I'm now able to say "you can find me on etsy"!

There is so much more to put on there, and I promise it is coming, but wanted to share and get your thoughts..........

This beach bowling set comes complete with 10 pins, 1 ball (with finger holes!) and it's own carry case. It even has back straps for your convenience......how thoughtful!

But that not even the best bit!
Best bit is it was $2 !!
Seriously!!
I had to have it :)

And just look at what fun we're having already!

What have you brought home from an oppie recently?
