Epic week....

This week has been an epic week!

We have,
had packers arrive,
had contracts signed,
had parcels wrapped,
had presents swapped and received.

We have,
said farewells,
finished school for the year,
had our last day of preschool ever!!
had a playgroup graduation.

We have,
had girls nights out,
final sleep overs,
drunk too much,
and stayed up too late most nights.

But this week was epic not because of all this,
This week we had to deal with the death of an amazing friend.
She was true to all. Kind. Honest.  Open hearted and the most amazing friend to call your own.
Her smile was infectious and the 400 odd people who came to farewell her all thought the same.
She was brave beyond comprehension and dealt with all the hideousness that 'acute leukemia' threw at her.

I will miss you my dear dear friend, and can say with all my heart, I will never forget you. You taught me so much and I am truly grateful we had so many years of so many great memories together. Your boys will be cared for by many and know your love for them forever.........
Thank you Amanda, be at peace x

Cathartic Culling!

Tumblr_lp0yfakjrn1qfhtnu_large

Only when you move do you realise just how much 'stuff'  you have!
This week has seen me doing a LOT of sorting, culling, reorganising and organising. It's crazy! Honestly, how much 'stuff' does one family of 5 need? What to take, what to leave, what to store, what is going to be used in the next 2 years, what's not......too many questions for my little head I say!

Having fun though, who new it could be so cathartic! Room by room I'm making my way through, and all that's left is the kitchen - been putting this one off, just quietly - hoping it doesn't take me ALL day!!!

Have you done a cathartic clean of late? Which room did you save till last??

Change -

Tumblr_mej8edxkae1rmbhlto1_500_large

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly things can change. Only a few weeks ago, every thought, phone call, decision, conversation, list etc was revolving around 2 little lives that may have been joining our family. Now, within about 2 weeks, the decision has been made that our little family of 5 will relocate with Pips work to New Zealand!! Auckland here we come!

Ahhhh!

Now it seems, just like before, every conversation, phone call, list, email etc revolves around this move! There is just soooo much to do and considering we fly out Dec 28, there is just not enough time. How do people do this often? It is so intense. I mean moving is one thing, but 3 kids, a dog, 2 vehicles, a house and 5 passports is seeming a little overwhelming to say the least!

Despite all the craziness though, we are all so excited - and a little nervous!
It will give Pip the chance to really shine and show his full potential, the kids to experience an new culture/lifestyle and catch up with some cousins who live in NZ. We can do some exciting travelling and see new things and with any luck we'll get to pop over to Samoa (a little dream of ours) since we're in the neighbourhood!

So much to do, so little time!
Have you done a big move overseas? Got any good tips for me?
Done something fun in NZ you could recommend?

Advent Time!

Last year we had a leaf advent calender like many others I think, but this year I thought I'd do something with the ever growing pile of toilet rolls that we have here!

Here's what we came up with.......

We also have the little tradition of having to wait until December 1, to crack open the gingerbread house. Always so exciting the old gingerbread house covered in lollies!

Hope your enjoying your countdown............only 22 more sleeps!!

Sharing grateful...

30945_176717509136255_1522622534_n_large

Last night during dinner, we went around and said one thing we were grateful for. It is something we do most nights, mainly to help me gage where ttheir at and whats on their minds. Funnily enough they pull me up when we haven't done it, and even our lovely neighbours kids are getting into it when they join us during the week. Do you do something similar?

Anyway, thought I'd share last nights funny responces. ........
Pip - "I'm most grateful for knowing you kids are all so well cared for by mum while I'm away"
Me - "I'm most grateful for my little sleep in this morning"
Bib (7) - "I'm most grateful for you taking us swimming today"
Stooge (5) - "I'm most grateful for my napkin, cause it just caught a blob of tomato sauce"
Rouge (2) - "I'm most grateful for my bubble water"

What's made you grateful this week??

Takes more,

Amor-faz-flutuar_large

This week (and indeed the last few weeks) has been a tough one for our family.
Pip's beautiful cousin died of a hideous cancer just 8 weeks after her diagnosis. She was just 22, and was the proud mother of 2 boys under 2....what can you say?
At time of diagnosis, she was given an expected life expectancy of 3 weeks, but she so desperately wanted to see her baby turn one which was to be in five weeks. It was tough.  She was so devastatingly sick, in horrendous pain and the drugs only seemed to be making her worse.
But she did it! She got to see her baby turn 1 and literally that night started the fast spiral down hill.

Eight weeks later and we receive the phone call - she's gone.
So quick, so hideous and so, so sad.

Worst part is the boys. Who's left to look after them? You would think the father, but he apparently just doesn't think he can do it, so declined the position.......WTF?

I tell you, this got my hackles up. You manage to get them here in the first place, but now you think it's not what you wanted.....too bad cockhead. Yes you heard right....COCKHEAD!
It's really confirmed for me that whilst anyone can be a father, it takes a real man to be a Dad.

My 'father' left my mum when I was about 3 and my brother was around 5 and we almost never saw him again. (I say almost, because he did turn up ONCE, and took us to Centrepoint when I was 7, but that was it!)
Mum remarried a man who had a son just a little younger than I was, 4 days before I turned 6 and it is this man who has been my Dad ever since. He has carried me, fed me, cared for me, loved me, guided me and taught me over the many many years, and yet I am not his. He was able to love me (and my brother) as his own since the day we met him. How is this so? How does one man become the best dad ever to children that aren't from his blood, and others be so unemotionally attached to their own?

Anyway, to cut a long story short, the cockhead, after not seeing his partner (nor his children) in the last 3 weeks of her life, has decided that maybe he could do it? Maybe if he gets some money from the state government to help him, he could do it! And you know what the worst thing is, according to social services, he would be the better choice than us, who are financially secure, willing to adopt and raise as our own, been screened and nitpicked to endth degree too complete satisfaction, and yet he is their father so he is first choice......??
Now I know this well could be the turning point in his life, his changing moment so to speak................well all I can say 'cockhead', is that you better step up and be a dad to these precious boys and not just a father.

Am I overreacting?? What are your thoughts?

Easy flower bobble tutorial.....

Thought I'd share what Bib and I have been making to give to the girls in her class for Christmas this year.
They are easy, quick, bright and suitable for girls of ages.

1. Here's what you need:
cotton, needle, bobble, felt and a button (the kind that shows no holes on top)

 2. Cut your felt pieces into little petal shapes and lay them together in piles. (If you are making a flower all the same colour or rainbow, then 5 petals works well, but we are alternating with 2 colours, so did 6 petals to keep it even)

3. Next you simply stitch the petals onto your cotton. Be sure to do the same stitch on each petal so they fold the same way once pulled together. For example, I always went down, up, down, up from the top of each petal.

4. Start to pull one side of the thread (be sure to hold the other side tight so they don't fall off!) to bring all the petals together.

5. Pull tight and secure with a knot or two. (Be sure to leave the thread strings long as this is what you will thread your button onto and secure your bobble to) See pictures below

And that's it.......so simple!
You can make these to colour match outfits, be in school colours (ours happen to be red/green) christmas themed or anything you like really.

Have you got an easy gift idea you can share??

Bout time!

I'm here to share my excitement! (if you can't brag on your own blog then where else can you!!)
Finally - after much too much faffing - I have my etsy store up and running again.
Woohoo!!

As many of you know I believe strongly in upcycling and making things out of whats at hand, so it's this concept that has had me sewing and creating and off to markets, selling my goodies.

Here's a little look......

I am forever being asked for 'my card' and unfortunately I still haven't finalised my logo so haven't got any, but happily, I'm now able to say "you can find me on etsy"!

There is so much more to put on there, and I promise it is coming, but wanted to share and get your thoughts..........

This beach bowling set comes complete with 10 pins, 1 ball (with finger holes!) and it's own carry case. It even has back straps for your convenience......how thoughtful!

But that not even the best bit!
Best bit is it was $2 !!
Seriously!!
I had to have it :)

And just look at what fun we're having already!

What have you brought home from an oppie recently?

Turn that frown upside down

Did you know it takes 22 muscles to smile compared to a huge 37 to frown.
So think, by just smiling you'll be conserving energy!!

We've been practising our faces here. I believe getting kids to play around with their facial expression can really help kids. It allows them to see emotion, show them other ways to express themselves......instead of having to rely on their voices or their fists)

Giving them the chance to see you make faces, and allowing them to pull their own faces is equally important. Sitting in front of the mirror and talking about what faces might mean what and making a game of it. It's fun and your kids can  learn so much about reading reading people and conserving energy at the same time!

Here's a few of our fav's. Can you read the emotion?

Back!

It's been a while since I've blogged.
Since the death of my friend I found myself in bit of a funk. I found myself doing a lot of thinking, both forward in time and back. This constant thinking has occupied most of my head, hence not much left for blogging! Team that with  two weeks school holidays spent exploring Melbourne and a family drama unfolding, the blog has been neglected..........but I'm back!

So here's a quick pictorial to keep us up to date!!

lots of time spent playing with new birthday presents

sharing special times with friends

getting hands on in Melbourne

enjoying the simple things

connecting with dreams

taking our 'promise'

enjoying the beauty in nature

see you soon!

Why??

Heart-leaf-love-photography-quote-favim.com-438285_large

Why is it some have all - others just get the rest?
Why is it some just cruise through life - others have to struggle to make it through the day?
Why is it some have bodies they choose to abuse - others get bodies that refuse to work?
Why is it some don't have a care in the world - others carry a troubled mind?

Today I farewell one of my closest childhood friends.......

Oh we shared some fun :0),
like painting pictures and selling them to passes by,
like picking flowers from other peoples gardens then selling them back to them as a posie,
like ransacking bags at council clean up time, to see what treasures we could find (best was a whole suitcase full of wigs!)
like climbing trees, only to sit in them and eat packets of stolen jelly crystals from the pantry,
like flying down the flying fox completely out of control only to see who could get the best time,
like walking the hallways of each others house doing foot exercises together, just so we could stay together a little while longer,
like going from house to house, bedroom to bedroom, backyard to backyard playing for hours at a time, doing whatever we liked,
like staying up late while our parents bbq'd together.

Childhood was great!
But things got harder as we grew up.
His mind didn't always work how he wanted it to - his body even less.It was like his own body was trapping him.  It was tough.
Sadly, sometimes things can build up to a point where we feel we can't cope - everyone has a limit - and sadly for him, this was that time.

I will miss you old mate and I hope you find peace. I look forward to the day we can laugh together again xx

Furry Friendships

There can be a bond between an animal and a person that needs no words. A love that is shared between the two that often no body else can understand.

It is that way with my little Rouge and our loved family dog Duke. Duke is a Labrador x Golden Retriever and he is BIG! He is very energetic and some would say dopey, but Rouge and he have a connection. It's amazing to watch them together, her being so small and he being so big.

This is why I think having a pet (of any sort) is so important for childhood. Pets help teach responsibility, limits, boundaries, love and that special ability - unconditional love.

He's gentle,
He's soft
He's caring

Almost five years ago
Our beautiful boy came into our world.
He's warm,
He's crazy
He's loving

Almost five years ago
Our beautiful boy came into our world.
He's big eyed,
He's hopeful
He's divine

Happy Birthday beautiful boy
